High Point, N.C. - It seems that face lifts are going around this time of year. Officials at High Point University have today announced that the season-opening weekend baseball series between Charlotte and High Point has been moved to First Horizon Park, the new home of the Greensboro Grasshoppers.
"Coach Sal Bando at High Point communicated with us that the facility on campus is not ready," said Charlotte head coach Loren Hibbs.
The stadium, which opened in April of 2005, is the home of the Florida Marlins' Class A affiliate.
"Certainly, we can empathize with that situation as it is so close to ours with our stadium construction," said Hibbs.
"They found a quality facility for us to play in this weekend. We appreciate the efforts they made and look forward to getting the season started in a fine venue."
The series, which features a 1 p.m. first pitch time on Saturday and Sunday, will also be broadcast here at Charlotte 49ers.com in partnership with Yahoo!
Charlotte is coming off a 35-20-1 season, their first in the A-10, where the Niners were tied for third at 18-9. Charlotte returns 17 letterwinners from last season, including eight of nine starting offensive position players.
The home opener for the Niners, which has already been moved to Kannapolis and Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium due to stadium construction, is scheduled for Tuesday, February 13 against Virginia Tech at 2 p.m.
